Civic Life
Dir: Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor (Desperate Optimists).

Civic Life is a unique community film project - a series of seven short films each shot in a day on 35mm making extensive use of the long-take. The glamour and production values of shooting on film jars with the rawness of performances by a cast of non-professionals. Through the local community’s ad hoc acting a near to documentary hyperreal drama evolves saying much more than intended by the story.Screening: Who Killed Brown Owl, Moore Street, Revolution and Twilight.

Remake (DE 2004) DVD, 20 min, German with English subtitles.
Dir: Hangover Ltd. (Christine Groß, Sophie Huber, Ute Schall, Tatjana Turanskyj)

Remake is the latest award-winning film by the Berlin-based filmmaker group Hangover Ltd. Featuring the artists themselves as the films’ characters, they achieve a high degree of artificiality by reenacting scenes from John Cassavetes’ Faces and relating them to their own lives. The result is an atmospheric and condensed miniature vacillating between hysteria and self-mockery with a boundless pleasure in performance.
